I Believe In Equality

I am appalled that in this day and age that rampant sexism is still a thing. Yes equal pay for equal work. But there is no equity. the fight every day for a modicum of the respect men are just given is beyond exhausting.

I must say I have had to contend with that early on in my career. First because my ideas bucked the conventional thinking of the good ol boy net work at my office. Then it was because my ideas were wildly successful and they had no idea how or what I was doing . Then the jealousy and pettiness at my promotion making me their equal , then finally my being instrumental in those obstinate bigoted individuals receiving mandatory retirement . Not all men have been that way ... my mentor was a brilliant and very kind man that was always “ on my side” but wouldn’t hesitate to point out a mistake or question a strategy . But in a constructive way . Now I am one of the guys though I am still the only woman at my capacity at work . But I trust my partners now and they trust me. We have each other’s back and my 2 cents worth carries as much weight as anyone else’s ... and my “boss”. Is a man ... I have no problem with his authority and I respect him . I only have disagreements with him
Privately . He usually walks into my office and asks what my face as all about at a meeting ... and at work I call him sir . I’m the only one that does . But when he asks me to do something it “ yes sir” . It seems to stop a lot of the behind the back chatter in my division . And privately he has thanked me for my support . Not all women are deserving of accolades , neither are all men, but everyone is due some respect .

@TexChik thank you for this comment. I just wish I'd known much earlier in life that every day would be such a battle. I work in an industry where women make up about 3% and battle it is.

Absolutely not everyone deserves recognition and promotions. However, there is no man alive no matter how "understanding" he may try to be who truly understands what we go through. And unfortunately it's not just in the constant proving of knowledge but in the barrage of incessant harassment of a sexual or just undermining nature.

What is sexism? Men and women do not think alike. That is not to say which one is right or wrong or if there is even a right or wrong in many instances. That being said let everyone prove their worth and wisdom and be paid and promoted accordingly.

Have you read anything women in Congress have said about their experiences? It really is disturbing how sexism is still seen as completely acceptable.

@questionWeaver I'm not talking about your inability to hire qualified people. I'm talking about being qualified and taking flak over errors made by my male counter parts because it couldn't be them
