I Miss The Old Times

I hate how the old model of department stores vanishes here. I miss the last one we had in our city so much. I could freely move through the whole building and buy clothes, shoes, cosmetics, household goods, kitchen utensils, stationery, electronics, books and random stuff without being constantly spied on and bothered by shop assistants. Everything was at one place. And it was a great place to go when it was too cold outside and I needed to spend an hour or more in the city centre.

@MarkPaul Small, separate shops along the main street in city centre or small separate shops inside the shopping centers. We have supermarkets and hypermarkets (I guess that's what Walmart and Target are) but they are located in more remote areas and don't offer such variety of products. The truth is that since Lidl came here, many people buy lots of clothes and household goods there. The problem is that they don't offer everything at the same time and in case of clothes, you can't try them on there.

Big shopping complexes are the most popular now and they are alright but they are nothing more than shops from the main street relocated to one big complex. In other words, there's not as much freedom of self-service.
