I Have Random Thoughts

Is there such thing as being so independent that you do not feel the need to have a lifetime partner? Or maybe it is caused by another reason.. anyone else feeling the same way?

My Mother is so independent she can't stand the thought of not being single for the rest of her life. I think it's in part because of her past partners but she's always been really independent

Consider eventually finding a life partner. It can get very lonely when you are older. The right partner will not put much restriction on your need for independence.

My close friend is now mourning the loss of her husband after 49 years of marriage. They met as teens, married with no wedding or honeymoon and got along well with each other most of the time for all those years.

Yes, people are different in how they conduct relationships and marriages.

Here in California, about half of all marriages end in divorce within 5 years. But that means a significant percentage of people stick with it and some of them are very happy.

@greenmountaingal: I do not see anything wrong with marriage and being with one person. In fact, I cherish such strong will and devotion, and I feel like I would have it in me. I do not need one partner at the moment, so definitely do not want lots of them throughout time. I suppose, the problem then is laying on whether the person is right for me or not. Just seems so hard to find someone so special and perfect for me..

@Soultobe: Yes, it can be hard. But then you only need one.
