Call me crazy, but...
Why is it that possessiveness is the standard by which we judge how much a person cares for another?
It seems like we're praised for how well we share (in other aspects of our lives), but in regard to people, a lack of possessiveness always seems to be correlated with a lack of love?
Why? That doesn't make sense.
Possessiveness is an ugly emotion, it's something we should aspire not to feel, but especially in regard to significant others that's not true. People are judged as being uncaring, or having a lack of love for their partner if they are not deemed to be sufficiently possessive of them.
That's wrong in my eyes, and it's one example of how some of the rules we choose to live by seem to contradict everything else we've been taught in life.
