"Never Be the Same" -- Christopher Cross [I Like This Song]

"Never Be the Same" was the third hit single by singer-songwriter Christopher Cross.

It reached #1 on the US Adult Contemporary Chart and #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1980.

The song was one of several hits released from Cross's self-titled debut album, Christopher Cross, which won the performer 5 Grammy Awards.

Cross had a few other successful recordings after "Never Be the Same", but his brand of adult contemporary music declined in popularity in the mid-1980s. Although he hasn't regained the mass following he once had, Cross has continued to tour and record albums--some of them critically acclaimed.

But the tours and recordings were halted in 2020 when Cross was diagnosed with COVID-19. He spent 10 days in the ICU and was subsequently diagnosed with Guillain–Barré syndrome, which his doctors believe was triggered by the coronavirus. It severely impacted his ability to walk and has had other debilitating effects as well.

Cross continues to recover and his condition is much improved now. He is looking forward to touring again.

And today is Christopher Cross's 70th birthday. Wishing him a happy birthday and a full recovery from his illness.
Love seeing how determined he is, even at his age and with all the challenges that life is throwing at him. Bravo!

Wishing him a speedy recovery and a very blessed Birthday 🎂 💖🌹

May he live a long life...

Oh no! 😟 I had no idea he caught the virus, I've always loved his music AND this song.🎶💕💙🤗 Phil Collins is another one that can't walk anymore. God bless them.🙏⭐

@Peaches Christopher Cross is doing better now and is able to walk with a cane, last I heard. I think he's well on his way to making a full (or nearly full) recovery.

Oh no. Hadn't heard about Phil Collins being unable to walk. I hope this is just temporary thing.

@RuttermanThat's good to know, but I think for Phil it's permanent. 🎶💙

@Peaches So sorry to hear that. 😕

I haven't heard that one. They still play one or two Christopher Cross songs on the radio, but not that one for me to hear. They celebrated his birthday with this one:

Happy birthday, Chris. Hope you recover soon.

@HairbrushDiva The one you've posted here might be his biggest hit and I hear it every so often. I still hear my two favorites by him, "Sailing" and "Ride Like the Wind", pretty frequently.

Yes, hoping he makes a full recovery soon and can resume touring.
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@Rutterman I've heard those two occasionally, but not as often as "The Best That You Can Do".
I hope he heals.

@BridgeOvertroubledWaters He reportedly is doing much better now. I think he will come out of this okay.

Sad to hear about his health issues. I hope he recovers well.

I think he has a pretty solid place with the yacht rock crowd.

@ChampagneOnIce He looked remarkably young and healthy in an October 2020 interview I saw and it sounded like he's very much on the mend. Wouldn't surprise me if he resumes touring before the end of the year.

Agreed. I think he has many forever fans in that crowd.
