AvGeek, please don't apologise. I have learnt a lot too in my time online. I am sad by what is happening in Europe and the western world. It seems a day does not pass without us hearing about gun or knife attacks these days. I am looking at distractions so that my mind does not get too overwhelmed by the vitriol going on even online.

I'm quite fond of all the east/southeast Asian ethnics and cultures, countries and histories and rather offended at western arrogance and superiority complexes at times. I am white Caucasian westerner and exposed to it a lot.
Yes Nik, I know right. I remember it was my Chinese teacher in primary school who first told us about the practice. She was telling us how not to write long stories in our compositions and she used the phrase - 'your story is as long as the cloth used to bind a woman's foot'. We were incredulous how there really was such a cruel practice for the girls in those days.
Cierzo, true. It must have been horrifying pain they went through where bones are crushed and the entire feet bent. I wonder whose perverse idea it was that women look beautiful with small feet.

She's beautiful. Looks very modern so I doubt very seriously if her feet were ever bound. But maybe they were. No way of knowing either way just from the pic. I can't tell anything about her feet from this pic. Looks like she might be standing on something?
AvGeek, yes. This is a character in a film. The pic attached here shows real bound feet in small shoes. I won't post real bound feet here. They are quite grotesque, to be honest.
Yikes! I remember the first time I read about that. I was horrified! It is too far beyond my understanding how something like this could take root. Like a weird foot fetish run amok.
November - Is this a mondern day practice? Where/what countries? Are the women forced to have this done to their feet? Seems like an ancient practice in old pre WWII Japan. I wonder.
