I Love the Ocean
My Sanctuary
For me, the ocean is my sanctuary. Having grown up in Hawaii, I was at the beach almost every day, and about half the time in or on the water in a boat. When I moved to what we call the "mainland" I was grateful to have family who live right on the ocean. My business is just two blocks away, and my home is three blocks away, so I can easily walk to the ocean when I need my vitamin O. My favorite place to write is within a park that sits over a beach. When I sit at my favorite bench, I can feel the ocean mist against my face. As I compose my chapters, I sometimes look up to see whales breaching, or dolphins playing in the water. Sea otters and harbor seals swimming around, and of course gulls and pelicans flying about. There is just something so mesmerizing about that. It is there that I feel whole. I feel very lucky as I know there are others who don't even get the chance to be near the ocean.
