I used to think that way as well. Then my mother died, I called everyone to let them know and no one had anything nice to say about her and most even went as far as to say that they were glad she was dead because she was nasty. Then a few said something that shocked me. "She hated everyone except for my dog". I had no idea she felt that way about my dog.

@curiosi your mother was a damaged soul. If she could show some type of love to a dog and none for humans someone hurt her very badly when she was young.

@cherokeepatti Spoiled rotten! She was just like an angry 3 year old. She never showed love to my dog she just talked nice about her. No other breathing thing escaped her judgement.

@curiosi Yes that can do it too. Being doted on by a parent or other adult all their life conditions them to expect others to do it and when they don’t they are very unhappy people who are resentful and feel entitled. I think that’s what happened to my younger sister and my father, they were both doted on at the expense of other children in the family. Some of the things my younger sister does is exactly the same as what she did as a 3-year old.

@cherokeepatti Every statement started with "I", she could turn any story around to make it about her, it was surreal!

@curiosi Maybe I should feel good that I got my butt whooped nearly every day for a few years. I’d wander out of the yard or something and getting my daily dose of butt-whoop. At least I respected boundaries and learned to keep myself out of trouble by volunteering for chores to stay focused.

@curiosi extreme narcissism. Yes being doted on does that.
