I Care About The Environment

I think it's time to boycott all oil related products

yeah it's hard.

so is most stuff worth doing.
Faust76 · 46-50, M
Humans are oil-powered, so it becomes a game of defining "oil related", really. And yeah, in this instance electric isn't necessarily automatically better, because all electricity production relies somewhat on oil and oil-products, which is indeed one reason oil should be saved for the important stuff. It's step in the right direction, but that all makes absolutism hard.

@Faust76 The planet is absolutely fucked if we don't
Faust76 · 46-50, M
@Platoscave The planet is absolutely fucked anyway, and it has mostly to do with population. I wish solutions were that easy, but if people can't vote in politicians that support even reduction in pollution & exploitation, what chance does expecting people to make personal sacrifices have? Sure, there are other things people can do in support, but voting is really the most effective. Short of tilling the soil by hand in the nude to plant seeds left by your grandfather (which, admittedly, sounds fun but can't actually sustain people) what you're asking for is actually impossible, which is why absolutism does more harm than good.

You cant boycott when youre poor. You buy what is cheapest. Defeating capitalism is a must if we are to ensure our survival on this planet
Toasty · 22-25, M
@SW-User Venezuela was capitalist
SW-User
@Platoscave the poor wont do shit if they cant afford it. Go be a liberal then
SW-User
@Toasty Venezuela nationalized their oil and used it to subsidize welfare programs. Oil prices then fell around 2014 and the u.s. embargoed their oil. Now they can't subsidize shit. That is not socialism. Mexico did the same thing but i dont see you calling them socialists. The conservative government of Iran did the same in the 50s. Socialism is when the people or community own the workplace together. Nationalizing industries is not socialist unless they are given to the people for control

Yeah, I'm basically with Faust on this one. Plus we can pretty much kiss modern medicine goodbye in the absence of petroleum-based plastics. It's not that it's hard, it's that it is impossible to be absolutist about this without either casting aside modern civilization altogether, or first arriving at a nanotech-based economy (in which case the total boycott would essentially become an accomplished fact without people needing to be spurred onto it anyway).

It is impossible.

Almost all important places have a generator backup for power.

All food is delivered by truck. Just imagine... the next food market genre is going to be “all food delivered by electric trucks.”
Platoscave · F
@SW-User I thought I'd hear this.

Important crucial stuff is fucking hard.
MildlyInappropriate · 51-55, M
You start by saying it is impossible, but then you list a solution in the end. Impossible today becomes tomorrow’s commonplace, when we decide that’s what we want to do as a species. @SW-User

@Platoscave I was just throwing out the extreme examples.

I get that any change is good.

I would love to but most clothes are made out of polyester oil based materials for the cheapest and a lot of artists use oil based paints. It’s pretty hard as oil is used for many things but I understand we’re you are coming from
Platoscave · F
@SW-User Its' the hardest thing this world population would ever have to do

BUT SOMETHING HAS TO STOP THE NWO.
Toasty · 22-25, M
im sure we will have a plan in 55 years when the oil runs out. right?
Platoscave · F
@Toasty You don't get my vote 4 president dude ;=)
Toasty · 22-25, M
@Platoscave we need more nuclear power
