"Why does everything have to be about race" good question, ask the white colonists

You can't dissociate from history "because it was a long time ago", when it literally is the reason power dynamics work the way they do now.

Talking about race has a time and a place. People wanna do it alllllll the time, and it's inappropriate.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@offingg That's why I said "probably." Because it's likely, but not certain. This isn't that complicated.
offingg · 26-30, F
@BlueMetalChick Ok, what part of any of that does it make it not okay to talk ALL the time about something that I face ALL the time? Isn't that essentially my right?
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@offingg Exactly what kind of conversations are you turning into a race debate at all hours of the day? Are these topics which are already affected by racial issues? Or is it like "Hey what toppings should we get on the pizza?" "OMG THE WHITE COLONISTS!"

As someone who dealt with extreme oppression most of my life simply for the crime of being born different and has suffered and grown much from their experience, it would appear to me that you are the one that can't let go and I would recommend doing so for the sake of your own happiness and peace of mind. I use the past to learn from, the present to live in and the future to fight for and couldn't care less about the rest unless it affects me or someone I care about regardless of race. I honestly don't care what race you are or what struggles you deal with, nor do I care about the world around me unless it suits my wants and needs. I will simply help those I care for or feel deserve it and leave the rest behind. Depending on the way you treat me you can either be my friend, my enemy or even one of my personal slaves. I find living this way makes me feel much better. This is only advice based on my personal experience so please feel free to take it or leave it.

@FreeSpirit1 Well, she is right that the history affects how people live today. American Indians live on reservations in the United States. And if it weren't for English colonists, Indian reservations wouldn't even exist to begin with. However, I don't think racial history affects so much how people act and behave today. The Ku Klux Klan lynched a lot of Black people during the Civil Rights Movement but that hasn't caused the majority of the Black population to be convinced that every White pedestrian that walks past on the street is going to hang them.

@BlueMetalChick What people did to other people years ago should not make anyone feel guilty today....is my point.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@FreeSpirit1 I see what you mean. Hindus killed a lot of Buddhists several hundred years ago but I wouldn't hate a Hindu person today because of it. Unless of course they still thought it was acceptable to kill Buddhists, but that's a totally different scenario.
Because, alas, it still is. And generally people who choose not to acknowledge it are those somehow in a position of privilege so they don't have to.

@bijouxbroussard Exactly.
