For the most part, yes. That doesn't mean someone without a degree is necessarily lacking in education, but a degree confirms a certain level of access to information has been achieved.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Budwick North Korea is in the world. If you had a degree, you might know that. If you had access to information you would definitely know that. Finally, the original question doesn't stipulate where "here" is.

I suppose you don't know what you are talking about. But, tbh, that was just a hunch, until now.

@MarkPaul That's some fancy tap dancing! Especially for an uneducated North Korean!

Yes.

Most of these answers are treating “educated” and “intelligent” as synonymous. They are not.

The questions of whether you need a degree to be intelligent or whether a degree ensures intelligence are entirely different and the answer to both would be no.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@SW-User In the most literal sense, you are correct.

However, it IS possible to be self-educated, and in that case no degree would be attained.

In fact, it's also possible to attend a centre of learning, do a full degree course, and then not bother to sit the final exam. So you would have been educated, but not received the degree.

@Quizzical True. “Educated” means you’ve had an education. A degree is a common signifier of that education, but not the only one.

No, I prefer to hire people without college education

If you know how to think, act, and behave in all important areas of life then you are well educated. If not continue self-education. If some have all the degrees of the world but don't know how to take care of his mind and body, how to build and maintain good relationships with people, how to think and learn in an effective way etc then how he or she can be considered as educated? Having degrees only means you know about a particular topic well, or have skills on it but what about important areas of life where you need a lot of knowledge to be successful? that is why we see many people that claim themselves to be educated can't maintain a single important area of life although they have degrees.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
no. education come from life experience. a degree is just a piece of paper that you show to people that says " i spent all my money and life to do only one thing. please treat me like a number." you go to school to accumulate debt. you go to school to become a savant.
Budwick · 70-79, M
Not so much anymore.
The quality of education has faltered a great deal in the last few decades, IMO.

Regurgitating was the instructor wants you to say doesn't signify that anything has actually been learned.

I know lot's of people with big degrees that lack the common sense of a tomato. And, I also know great people with out a degree that are successful and happy by any measure.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
No, I don't believe that you do.
@SweetMae You don't need a degree to be an artist painter all you have to know is what happy little clouds are and that every tree needs a friend and it is an education. 😉

Technically, yes. It describes what one has achieved academically.

all you need to know is the powerhouse of the cell and you're good
No. There are many professions where people are required to be educated in order to receive a degree.

No. My father was one of the best educated men I have known. He learned all that he could by reading and talking to experts in various subjects. He had one year of business school after high school.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Depends on your definition of 'Educated' doesn't it.

Personally speaking I'm not sure I've met too many people and considered their intelligence to be the result of their education.

Or vice versa come to that.

No ..that is a common misconception ..I know many people with a degree who are shmucks

These issues are orthogonal. Plenty of schmucks without degrees as well.

However, someone without formal education, can be more informed and knowledgeable, than someone with formal education, in certain fields.
sillyfire · 41-45, F
no...I have friends with all kinds of degrees...but still as dumb as fenceposts
Shuborno · 31-35, M

No, but it does help you if you educate yourself by going on online courses or attending classrooms courses.
