@4meAndyou We are told that people with existing medical complexities like diabetes, hypertension and bronchitis are adding to major part of number of deaths. While looking at the case if Italy, it seems elder age has some role to play, probably due to reduced immunity. If they are preventing doctors to prescribe hydroxychloroquine, why they(U.S.) imported huge amount of that medicine from India. How can ventilator kill someone.

@ABCDEF7 Lot's of info here! It is Dr. Fauci who originally wanted to prevent elderly patients or anyone from receiving Hydroxychloroquine. It was HE who announced during a Presidential coronavirus conference that the data on hydroxychloroquine was all ANECDOTAL. Basically he was poo-pooing a valuable treatment that other countries had much success with.

It was President Trump, following his instincts, who decided to order the hydroxychloroquine.

Patients with pre-existing conditions are weaker, and if they get this virus without early, early treatment with hydroxychloroquine,it is too late for them. If they are forced to wait until they are hospitalized as is now being mandated in the USA it is already too late for them.

It was QuestionWeaver who told us the story of his friend's wife, who was close to death. The doctors had set the ventilator too high, and it was blowing out her lungs and giving false oxygen readings while she was turning blue. He spoke to the doctor himself, and asked him to turn the ventilator way down...and the woman also received antibodies from a recovered coronavirus patient, her own niece, at the same time. She is recovering now.

This shows us that coronavirus weakens the lungs, and doctors have not been taking that into account, using the same settings they would use for a healthier patient.

Another hospital tried a helmet-like ventilator on a patient who had refused to go on the ventilator. He did extremely well with it, and it was non-invasive. No induced coma necessary.

@4meAndyou I think there's much more politics in U.S than in India in this regard. Here the Indian govt. has recommended hydroxychloroquine only for preventive/ asymptomatic treatment of covid-19.

Many people have recovered even without ventilators. It's doctor's duty to decide how much oxygen a particular patient requires.
