How much repetition do you think there should be in math homework?

Turquoise1982 · 41-45, F
That depends. Some people are great with numbers, and don't need much help. I on the other hand, could spend all month doing the same types of math problems and I'd still be at the same level. (I have dyscalculia).

Math is more practical than theory hence requires practice and to perfect the practical, practice is required. So I would say, yes.

@Lee124 It's not a yes/no question. It's a how much question. Some textbooks have 100 problems per section. Generally, teachers assign 15-25 of those.

@33person then I would assess how well the concept was grasped first by adding a few complex questions and take it from there.

It depends on each person. But for me, I think the repetition has to be at least 5 times.

@SW-User So, if there are 6 examples in a given section of a textbook, you're saying there need to be at least 30 problems, 5 per example?
SW-User
@33person What? I didn't know you'd mention this. Well, it depends on what you choose to practice.

Enough to demonstrate mastery of the concept.

@REMsleep So, correct me if I am wrong in interpreting your answer. You're saying it is not about having enough repetition to drill the concept into their head by repeated exposure, but, rather, just enough repetition so that the assignment can be treated as an assessment of how well the student knows the topic?
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@33person Yes I think so. If this question is in regards to say a lesson plan for a class then I would give more homework on more difficult concepts and less homework on easier ones. If you are worried about the student forgetting then I would include 1 question in the homework randomly from a previous concept here and there. I even think that students who demonstrate total mastery of a concept should get a free get out of homework slip say for example if they get a 100 on a test or something
