Open book is nice if you have a ridiculous amount of terminology to remember, but in general closed book is better.

I prefer closed book, but I think it's harder. You can find the info if it's in your head, but if it's not, you're kinda screwed. I like it better, because it really shows whether or not you know the material. Whereas, open-book, like, what's the point? May as well just turn the book in as if you wrote it.

@Tatsumi Relatable.
Well, mostly the closed book test can only be easy if we study. That is the hard part of it; to study and memorize. In the end, we earn the reward.

Tests for advanced levels of almost every enough complex subject can be open book ones, because they are about what books contributed to teach you to think and solve and not about the specific info they provide.

@CharlieZ Yes, open is harder than close. Open exam test the ability to understand and find the information rather than know everything already. The closed test is like you know, but you don't exactly truly understand it because all you can do is memorize and let it out, almost like rote. So the open test will force you to truly understand the subject to find the correct information by not giving you the answer to memorize it.

I can remember 85% of a class without ever taking notes.
Open book tests allow me to answer the stupid trick questions or find the terms nobody uses once you leave college.

@SW-User That's great!

Closed, actually testing the student's abilities to retain and recall information and understanding of the concepts vs open which is basically how well they can look up the answers.

You should still study for an open book test the same as you would for a closed one. I only used the book to check my arguments at the end.
SW-User
@SwampFlower I only study for an open book test if I know there will be an open book test.

@LvChris Knowing is not enough, remember is better. When you remember, you don't have to rely on everything and you can save much more time.
