@SW-User hahaha
Lol, as opposed to Roman ones ?
(Wonder how many people know those are what we already use ?) 😅
firefall · 61-69, M
it would be C times better to use roman numerals, because that would screw the school system even more.
No. And calculators and computers should be removed from all schools and replaced with abacuses (abacusii?). Students should also write their notes in Sanskrit.

(I looked it up - abacuses or abaci).

Crib notes can be written on the palms of test-takers, as always.

I thought they already were?

Ig options are good, but I think structure is important as well. It makes sense to have a numeric system that's commonly used, especially when it comes to measuring stuff or currency
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@KidAzazel And trust me, this one is REALLY commonly used.
KidAzazel · 26-30
@CountScrofula indeed it is 😂

this was already done but it signifies nothing, knowing them as Arabic numerals is not common knowledge because people just know numbers as numbers since the Roman version is only used in specific cases and not in things like mathematics. You're essentially asking people if something they don't know should be taught and, while they shouldn't be commenting on things they don't know, it misleads with a "foreign" term they do know so they use context and that's why they reply.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@Jackaloftheazuresand Well yes. My purpose here is to point out that something is not inherently scary or unwanted because its Arabic.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@CountScrofula they would act the same if you said some other word that was not American, because it's alien to them. It's not the Arabic that puts most of them off. And yes I know because I've seen a few that do freak out "Oh the muzzies are coming for our numbers" but the majority aren't giving any such indication.

@SW-User You make a good point. 🤔
curiosi · 61-69, F
Can't see any reason that would be helpful.
Mona86 · C

EndlessCircles · 26-30, F

@EndlessCircles I think even more were lost at “arabic “. 🤭

I’m pretty sure Spanish is the next popular language to English in America. So teaching them that would be more beneficial. But I don’t see them learning about other cultures as harmful either.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@Mrsbetweenfatandfit Well and the secret point I'm making here is that Arabic culture isn't some scary other. It's been influencing who we are for millenia.
Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
I think the reason people may feel worried about it, would be more due to ignorance of the culture. There’s bad apples of every creed, color etc America is a melting pot that’s what makes it such a great place to live. ( it’s not flawless but there’s certainly worse around) @CountScrofula
tenente · 100+, M
dude what numbers did YOU learn in school? lol
