Class Presentation

I have a few presentations coming up and I am nervous. I believe that I am a bad public speaker. Later on today I have to present my self portrait....I have written down on a sheet of paper what I want to say about my self portrait. I've practiced presenting my self portrait many times to loved ones and I have messed up. Is it a good idea to read my speech to the class?

Well.... You are telling your audience something they need to know.... And they can't know unless you tell them... What you tell them is important, and I can only imagine how proud you are that you get to tell them!

Public speaking is not easy, but it gets easier if you speak with a purpose

I've found if you write down a few brief notes as a reminder it is easier than just reading off your paper. It sounds better, too. Also, just remember everyone having to speak is just as nervous as you and most likely won't even be paying attention.

I suck at it too I’ve gone and done presentations and messed up every time. Though I know many people that skipped those days.

@Aidan I haven't done a presentation in so long that I can't even remember what I did and if I messed up or not. I was planning on skipping class today because I didn't want to present my self portrait which isn't even graded....but I should just go through with it since I have other presentations to do.

like many things you build skills and confidence through repetition and by learning from mistakes. Can't learn from mistakes without making a few!

Would it be an option to record yourself giving your speech, and ask whether this could be played instead of you having to deliver it, because you feel you could do a better job this way?
OpalFlower · 31-35, F
@jomsim That sounds like a good idea but I don't think anyone else would be doing that and it might come off as weird to them.

@OpalFlower I guess you have to decide which is worst, then. Potential weirdness, or having to give the talk.

You could also come up with extra benefits of presenting it as video, such as also showing clips of your technique (which you couldn't do if just speaking).

What do you have to say about the self portrait?

I mean.... shouldn’t you be able to talk about it all day without prompt?
OpalFlower · 31-35, F
@SW-User Well the things I plan on saying about my self portrait is why I did it the way I did and I also have to explain each feature on it.
SW-User
@OpalFlower Pretend like you’re having a conversation with your friend about it. Don’t even think about everyone else.

@SW-User Easier said than done but I will try.
