What are those special class verbs that change spelling with tense?

@pagandad I did know the oldest English connection. Same for weird plurals... hooves, etc.

The spelling nearly always changes with tense. Do you mean ones that change in non-standard ways like swim, swam, swum?
@jomsim well change as in their vowels, not just adding ed. Yes, those would be examples

@stound I'd know them as irregular verbs. I think a few others agree with that too.

We were taught in the southern part of USA that these are called 'irregular verbs'...

Examples... become/became/become... begin/began/begun... burn/burned/burnt. Etc etc etc

@stound Yes, those are irregular. "Swim" and "run" have ablauting forms (i.e. the vowel changes) and verbs like "is/were/been" and "go/went" are suppletive, meaning that they have entirely different roots for different tenses.
