Anyone went to college to study a language?

How was your experience? Did you actually learn the language? I am planning to major in German, Russian, and modern Greek (and if it's possible a minor in history) after community college.

My advice for people who do this is to acquire the basics beforehand. You will be learning approaches of teaching, approaches of building its curriculum, approaches of learning, everything that has to do with the psychopedagogy, the linguistics including psycholinguitics, sociolinguistics, syntax, morphosyntax, phonetics, phonology, study skills, the literature, the related civilizations and cultural studies, the philosophy of language in general.. and so much more.

Which is why it will be very difficult to reach a balance between learning to speak the language and learning about it, and analyzing it.

@BlackBloodDemon There are but not those modules. And I suppose it's a different diploma.

The modules I listed will likely be taught in the languages you're attempting to study. I mean the foreign language will be the medium of instruction, in Canada and in France at least.

In your place, I'd start with Greek. Learn the basics of those languages then join the same advanced level as Greek.

You have to check your options in the university you're applying for.

@Miram thank you so much
The sad part is that most universities in my country don't offer modern Greek. I managed to find 2 but I got rejected from one and waitlisted from the other 😥

@BlackBloodDemon You are welcome.

You're very young and you can attempt to meet the requirements then apply again. Never give up on your passions.
