Please, can anyone explain how to solve the last problem

It's simple. Since it's an isolated and frictionless system, use law of conservation of momentum.

Momentum of bullet before penetration = momentum of bag + momentum of bullet after penetration

Momentum formula is mass* velocity

The answer..here you go

@midnightsun you are right sir
midnightsun · 26-30, M
@Hanging2 thanks

I’d just take the 8pt penalty

Is it as simple as subtraction? Because it's a frictionless surface there would be no lost energy so the kinetic energy of the bullet would be transferred to the flour?

So if that's right: the bag is moving at 185m/s?
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
@CheshireCatalyst mine is wrong. I forgot how to maths

Total momentum before = Total momentum after
Momentum of bullet + momentum of flour = Momentum of bullet + momentum of flour
mass * velocity + mass * velocity = mass * velocity + mass * velocity

plug in and solve.

The bullet lost 185 m/s from its speed, and since the bag of flour is about 100 times the weight of the bullet, that would be about 1.85 m/s

Ice isn't frictionless tho? 🤔
