"A" steamer is proper. It neither has a vowel nor a vowel sound at the beginning of the word.

@PrivateHell isn't it like estemer?

A steamer. "An" only used if word begins like with a vowel. An apple, an ant or an elephant.
If someone can please explain y olden days used to add "an" before words beginning with F, I'd like to know? I seen it... Somewhere

“A”, since steamer doesn’t begin with a vowel.
