How much homework do you think should be given in high school algebra courses, and why?

MasterLee · 56-60, M
About 3x of what is currently assigned
33person · 26-30, M
@MasterLee So 1/3 of 65, which is 21 and 2/3.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@33person you did your algebra 1 homework
33person · 26-30, M
@MasterLee Of course I did. The problem with students these days is they know they need to divide both sides by 3, but then when they have to do 65 divided by 3, they need a calculator and they don't even know that the calculator is rounding that last 6 up to a 7.

20 problems a night with a 5 point test bonus for every 20 correctly answered problems done in addition to the mandatory 20 per night ( 100 per week) .
bowman81 · M
Enough for the students to master the subject.
33person · 26-30, M
@bowman81 Sufficiently vague that I have no idea what you think it takes for them to master the subject. Some teachers may think that's 5 problems; others may think that's 105 problems.

@33person I "think" that it really is dependent on the individual student. Rarely is "one size fits all" the best way to proceed.

Algebra along logarithyms were the single most waste of time, neither of which did i ever come across in my life ,along with anyone else i know or met.
Biffed · 26-30, M
3 units minimum
Biffed · 26-30, M
@33person approximately 1080 problems per night
33person · 26-30, M
@Biffed Lol, so what are you gonna do after week 1 is over?
Biffed · 26-30, M
@33person play video games?

@Kingfish28 I'm kind of sadistic too, but Idk what I'd assign that would take 4 hours, lol.

None because I got better things to do
Basically enough to learn the subject, which is the point of the class. Drills to keep up.

@bijouxbroussard Yeah, that is the point of the class. Just how much do you think that is?
