Do guns buy freedom or take it away?

I see that many Americans are too fearful of their neighbours to leave their door unlocked. Britain and Canada do it right.

Only in very rural parts of Britain would you leave your doors unlocked. However, I have left my door unlocked (not deliberately) and the downstairs window wide open before when I went to bed and noone came in. There are some parts of Britain, especially in the inner cities that you would be crazy to even leave the door unlocked whilst you are in there.

@pennynoodles Phew lucky you weren't attacked by all those wild fenland carrots out on the rampage 😂😂

@cashless
I am pretty sure if someone has a gun, anyone would think twice before trying to harm that person.
I wish that were true. I live in Chicago, my city has the highest number of homicides (as a raw number, not as a percentage per capita) in the entire country. A large majority of those homicides are committed by gangsters. The problem is, the gangsters all have guns, and they all know that each other have guns, so they're always willing to draw their gun and shoot at the earliest opportunity. And none of them have any training so half the time they miss their target and hit an innocent person walking past.

I think people should be allowed to have guns, but just like cars and certain pets, you need to prove you're competent enough to use one properly without endangering other people. I don't even trust many of my neighbors to ride a fucking bicycle without hurting themselves or those around them, so fuck no I don't trust them with a firearm.

Leaving your doors unlocked and guns are mutually exclusive. I appreciate guns although don't own one yet. Depends on where you live in the US, many people like me are able to leave their doors unlocked during much of the day.

I think they add to freedom

@SW-User terrorists used knives on 9-11

@vetguy1991 Knives versus plastic sporks is a lopsided battle.
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
@SW-User exactly if you have a knife against unarmed people you can do what you want, its how they selected their targets
Also guns both buy freedom and take it away.

@Spoiledbrat In wartime, in the hands of the military.
The way the Muricans have used and abused the 2nd amendment and ¨news of the daily mass shootings indicate that guns have only brought bloodshed and insanity and for all we see, apparently they´ve gotten used to it and it's part of the local folklore to mass murder innocent kids at a school.

Their lives are less important than a gun for most Muricans

It's better to have one and not need it than need it and not have one
SW-User
@Scubayoda The opposite is the truth. Compare Britain to America
Scubayoda · 46-50, M
Cause Britain has no crime
SW-User
@Scubayoda There's crime, but not like in America.
That has little to do with guns. People lock their doors regardless.
Crime. @SW-User

@Spoiledbrat Do the criminals carry guns?
Some of them do. @SW-User

I fear my government, fuck my white trash neighbors
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Jackaloftheazuresand Your gun can't help you against your government. They have humvees and tanks and bomber jets and helicopters and flamethrowers and nerve gas and cluster munitions and white phosphorous and laser guided precision missiles launched from high altitude aircraft, they have nukes, they have chemical weapons, they have the capacity to attack from air, land, and sea, your firearm unfortunately is of no use if and when your government decides to try to stage a hostile takeover of the populace.

But there's one weapon that might be able to save you...
