What must a person do to start a labor union?

I work in an field where there are currently no labor unions. Even though I am usually against unions, the field that I am in truly tales advantage of employees and provides zero benefits of any kind. I would like to form a union of others in my field so we have some say as to our working conditions and benefits. How do I go about doing this?

Around here most jobs would fire you for joining a labor union and it is made an agreeement upon employment!

@SW-User As a rule, I generally detest unions, but the company I work for is so very behind in the times and provides next to nothing for the employees. Even the wages they pay are below the average wage for the field. We also get no benefits, no paid sick/personal/vacation time, etc. This is why I would like to start a union as I believe there was never a union for this field.
