What origins does my surname have??

Okay so, 2 days ago i ordered a ancestrydna test so theres no need for trying to research most things anymore, BUT there's one thing i'd really like to know because i don't know myself, and i also don't know if my AncestryDNA test can tell me from what Tribe my family descended, but yeah. My surname is " Coffie " and i read on every single website it has either Irish, or Ghanaian-Hausa origins. Since my family is almost entirely black (except for my great grandfather who was a white surinamer, a dutchman.) i know it is more african in origin than anything else, but just because it says my surname is of Hausa origin, does it mean my family could have descended from the Hausa tribe? Or am i just being plain stupid? I would appreciate it if you guys could help me on this matter hahaha thanks for your time

Probably. I think if it was Irish more than African, it would have been spelled with an O' before it.

According to forebears your surname is mostly prevelant and highest density in Ghana.

My sister did a DNA test from ancestry recently. It didn't specify if we were German, it only said Western Europe. Our surname has always said to be German and have family in Bavaria, Germany.

So I think I'd take everything on AncestryDNA with a grain of salt.

@Cannelle but then again even Europeans are shown to have small percentages of west african so i am not sure what 2 expect from the test really hahaa

@PrinceOfSangra Yeah, my sister was pretty disappointed with the results and wants to try 23andme, but I don't think it's going to be too different.

@Cannelle Nope, it probably wont. Infact AncestryDNA is probably more accurate with the percentage numbers than any other ancestry website. Because they have the largest database to go out on. So yeah, and if there will be a difference then it's probably 2 or 3% at max.

I can confirm it's Ghanian and this ancestor was born on a Friday. Coffi should be Friday (google translate may help).
