I Prefer Fantasy to Reality

David R. Hawkins

In reality, nothing thoughts say about oneself or others has any reality. All statements are fallacious and represent programming and positionalities. There are also positive statements about one’s worth, merit, or value that are equally based on fiction. The true Self is invisible and has no characteristics by which it can be judged. It has no describable qualities nor can it be the subject of any adjectives at all. The Self merely ‘is’ and is beyond verbs, adverbs, and adjectives. It does not even ‘do’ anything. -- “I: Reality and Subjectivity” (2003), Chapter 2: Spiritual Information and Practice, p. 24–25

Exactly. We never really describe ourselves in real life. This has led me to believe that I am empty on the inside, that I cannot know what these words mean. That words are too vague and abstract and don't really describe anything of any real significance. And then we forget the words we hear so easily, it's like they are never said. If I could remember my whole time track from birth to the present, then I would consider myself who I am in real life. But I have so little memory of the past that I can hardly be said to be the identity I've been given. This life is so transient and shallow. It's very rare for someone to remember all they've felt and done in their life, to have a perfect recollection of memory. I think this is something most people overlook in their identification with an identity in life. Like who am I if I can't even remember and relive 50% of my past? I'm less than half of what my body's experienced in thought according to society!
Not touching that with a 24" dildo.

We are who we are from birth, our personalities are eventually shaped by the environment we are born into and the beliefs, more often preconceived of those who "educate" us, but it is never who we really are.The essence of who we are remains the same.
