I Play Second Life

I just went in for a small amount of time to take a couple of pics. But will be doing more. I use to have land in Second Life or SL. It's a lot more fun to be able to make the place your own by landscaping and adding things to bring it to life.

These pics are of my avatar in my Linden Home, it's supplied when you have a membership, which you don't need to be in SL. Just gives me a base to start and end from and to be able to rez things.

My avi at my art table:

And relaxing by the fire:

Mind you, the fire isn't the best on this fireplace, but I got it cheap and it takes up little space. It works for me.

For me? SL is an escape from the realities that I won't be able to do the things I use to. Like go dancing, or horseback riding, or dirt biking. I can get dressed up or down, I can go surfing again, even if it's only on a screen and in my mind.

Now before some of you start to rag on SL or the people that are in there. Understand that it's anything you want it to be. It's what the community make it. All content is made by the people in there. The places you visit, the clothing you wear, the things you can buy, all player content. That being said, we all know that online worlds are full of all sorts, just like SW, so if you get some pervs here, yeah, you'll find them in SL. But you find some great people there as well.

I know this is long, but still. The place is not for losers, though I'm sure there are some that would be called that there, but it's a place to meet just like here, but interact in a 3D world, one with wonderful and odd places. You don't have to go anywhere or do anything you don't want to.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. Thanks again for taking the time to look.

“The place is not for losers.” I’m going to put that on my SL profile.

I used to paint portraits in Second Life.

I was actually on SL was it was still in beta. I was deeply involved for years when it was still cranking up and getting off the ground. I always enjoyed my time there and I try and pop on every year or so at least to see how things have updated and moved on.

@Pherick I've been off and on for the last 10 years, this is my second avi, because of drama during my first run. But I really enjoy it most times. Getting over something that happened in there recently and trying to make it better again.

@MrPerditus1 I know people who got very very deeply involved in it. I never did that myself, though thats more my approach to online life than SL in particular. Its always interesting to pop back into it after a while, see whats there, whats gone and whats changed.

@Pherick When I first started, I got way into, maybe bit too much. Took a break, created a new avi and started over.

It looks nice, never played this, and I played a lot of games like, A LOT.
I agree about the pervs, weirdos, you can find them pretty much everywhere, unfortunately 😅
MrPerditus1 · 61-69, M
@SW-User Sadly you're right, you can find them every where. 🤨

This "game" isn't really like any other game out there. Everything in the world is made by the inhabitants. You can buy things to make your avi better looking, more clothing, rent land and even landscape it any way you want. I've lived in a castle, a house boat in a swamp, a cabin in the woods and a run down warehouse in a apocalyptic ruined town. All things I bought or made and then changed the land to fit my vision.

It's not so much a game as a 3D virtual chatroom with lots of places to go and even more animations to help you do things like dance, ride motorcycles, ride horses and pretty much anything you can imagine. It's a nice escape for some and for me, it's a place to do things I can't irl anymore.

When you start out, it's free, but your avi will look it. You can get free clothing and body shapes and all, but they aren't the best. If you wanted to good start look and are willing to pay, it'll cost about 1500 Lindens (SL currency) which roughly comes out to about $5.82. That will give you a good base mesh body and nice skin. Anyway, it's been something that kept me sane when I was starting to lose it and I've made some wonderful friends from there. :)

Looks interesting not heard of it. Thank you for sharing🦉

@SW-User Most welcome. It's just like this, but 3D. You can travel around to other peoples SIMs or lands and visit. They have ballrooms with dance animations and so much more. If you can imagine it? It's probably there. Mind you, if you want something more than the basic avatar look, you will put some money into this place. My avi, pictured, I put together from buying body shapes, skins, hair, eyes, clothing and even the AO so he looks like he's moving realistically. But, it's fairly cheap in cost, sometimes only a couple of dollars. You don't have to pay though, only if you want.

Also, can be a bit confusing, so if you do try it and would like a guide to get you started, let me know and I can give you my avi's name or get yours and I can help. But only if you want.

Sounds very complicated I’m not good with tech @MrPerditus1
MrPerditus1 · 61-69, M
@SW-User Oh no, not complicated at all. Just create your avatar from the start, once in you can travel all around. If you want to make your avi look different, it's really easy and having someone inside to help you is even better. I was totally lost when I started. Now I help new people all the time. Honestly, if it was hard, I wouldn't be in it. lol

Sounds neat! 👍
MrPerditus1 · 61-69, M
@JustNik It is and it's very therapeutic, at least for me. In fact that's how I found the place...lol A therapist I was seeing actually recommended it to me after a bad break up left me withdrawing from people.

Since then, it's been a fun place to explore, meet people from all over the world and "do things" I can't anymore. I'm actually trying to learn Blender to make clothing and sell in there, for real money. :D
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
i dont understand how people can play games like that.. they're running so choppy and the graphics are awful... play WoW my dude.
MrPerditus1 · 61-69, M
@MartinTheFirst LOL just not the same, I'm sure. In SL, I go to a ballroom or a club, meet up with go with someone, I'm in a tux, she's in a gown and we can dance to a dj, request songs and just enjoy. But again, WoW just isn't for me. I've played many other games and am in some right now I enjoy. Doing Destiny 2 but thanks for that info.
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
@MrPerditus1 yeah i suppose an orc and a dwarf marrying each other on the beach just isnt the same...
MrPerditus1 · 61-69, M
@MartinTheFirst 🤣 Yeah, sad to say.
