Faded memories of childhood best forgotten

I have someone that I do not know
He whispers to me and says
That we were friends a long time ago
We use to play together in the snow
Maybe that's why I let those memories go
they were cold

He whispers again and lets me further in
don't you remember the games in the sand
how we would fill our socks with sand
and then throw them up in the air
to see who could catch both
I guess I lost so I chose to let those memories go

How about on those warm summer mornings
don't you remember the gate we climbed under
as we were exploring
The marks we made in the sand
memories of our school lessons

And I began to remember at first
The color of his shirt bright red
then I remembered his mom and dad
as they were walking with us to play

What happened to them I began to say
but his grin faded so I knew not to
Go into that story

And then I remembered watching the games on
Friday night in the basement of his parents flat.
And I remembered that we use to use the pillows to reenact every play

(I wished I could have stayed)

But then I return back to the present and remembered why I forgot all of it and the smile I held on my face vanished and I closed him and those memories back away.
