I Write

Someone once told him that he shouldn’t say
All the things he’d been wishing away
I don’t know, but it seems a bit superstitious

So he kept locked inside, all the pain he had felt
Like his mum once said, these are the cards you were dealt
I don’t know, but it seems like you should talk about it

But what will they do today
When he severs those ties
To this world that has kicked him and only told lies
People don’t know what sweet power they have
To curtail the anguish and tears

Yesterday he saw the sky that was masked by the sun
And he stared up and asked for the heart of just one
What he knew in his mind was that no one could save him

Here now in his room listening to that same song
It gives him a moment of pause but not for long
He now knows such words will not be able to change him

But what will they do today
When he severs those ties
To this world that has kicked him and only told lies
People don’t know what sweet power they have
To curtail the anguish and tears

There’s that hope that you’ll see the other side
Like the way the moon keeps chasing the tide
He doesn’t know, but it seems too optimistic

So he writes a short letter to lessen his guilt
Like his dad once said, it’s the life that you’ve built
He doesn’t know, but it’s a rational conclusion

But what will they do today
When he severs those ties
To this world that has kicked him and only told lies
People don’t know what sweet power they have
To curtail the anguish and tears
