I Am Stronger Because of All I've Been Through

So many days I believe this to be true, that what I have been through has made me a stronger person... Today is not that day.
If there are any Veterinary medicine workerd out there you will understand this feeling.
Today I had to do the worst part of my job, helping with a pet euthanasia. It was this precious angels time, but he did not understand that. While placing his catheter, he was very confused and delirious, crying out. We all were trying to comfort him. But tonight after only having 4-6 hours of sleep in the combined last two nights, all I can think of is, and vividly picture in my semi-photographic mind, is that dog from today. How can I keep doing this job? My first passion is with exotic animal care, but right now I can't go back to that field. It is going to be another sleepless night for me, and then another long day at work tomorrow with people yelling at me that I don't care about their animals, when they don't know that putting down a pet that isn't even mine keeps me up crying.
So sad...:( my daughter is an animal lover and wants to be a veternarians assistant, but it worries me that she may not be able to handle that part of the job. I can understand it, because I work in the field of geriatrics as a CNA and losing a resident is part of my job that never gets easy. I took a break from that work for a bit, but there is still a rewarding part of it too, like your own. Your also helping and aiding animals and caring for them too. Its hard though when those hard moments of the job stay with you, because it does hurt, but if that's your calling you will find all the passion in it too.

My advice for your daughter is to volunteer at shelters, observe at vet hospitals, and look into a vet tech program. It pays to be a CVT, and the skills learned in a program are important. It takes a strong person, but techs cry when we help euthanize cliets pets, we just have to do it privately away from the cliet.
