I Am Different [Being Different]

I will begin by stating that this is not a self proclamation but rather a statement I have heard time and time again by people around me. "You're so different from other people I know," or "Never met someone like you before" tend to slide past the lips of most people I encounter. It used to phase me a little but now I just take it as a compliment even if they state it with malicious intent. Yeah I am different, good or bad, but at least I am true to myself 馃榿

There could be many reasons for their reactions. From your wording, it comes across that you are very well educated, this brings up all sorts of insecurities in people who feel they are not in your "class". Also, I guess your cultural upbringing might be different from theirs, that we all have different values and interests is not something "I" orientated people often take into consideration. Hey, I wear plastic pants so I know I'm different, don't try to change who you are to please others!!

Different in what way would always be my question. Maybe it's just that these people tend to associate primarily with other with like minds and personalities. Personally I like knowing different kids of people. It makes life more interesting.

I respect the first part about not being a self proclamation

In what way are you different silent?

@plasticfantastic To be honest I don't think I am all that different from anyone else but I happened to notice a common trend with people I interact with. They seem to see me as different, which might be compared to those that surround them. Personally I see myself as normal....

Being different is way better than being the norm

People have always said that about me, too. I'm not sure if it's a compliment or an insult.
