I REALLY do miss when life was simpler as it was when I was a young boy or when I was a teenager. There was always someone to make / offer decisions for me and to offer me "sanctuary" and a safe place from the world. I wasnt really accountable for my actions as that was the responsibility of my parents and of my teachers to develop within me a sense of responsability and accountability in life.
They helped me achieve a certain empowerment towards being able to make my own decisions. None the less, decision making is no easy task and it's a process pf balancing the pros and cons, it requires quite often the need to compromise ones inner desires with stark reality. It's a mechanism that requires the capsbility of projecting outcomes from ones' decisions and compromises made. One has to respect others and decide when ones' decisions made infringes on the rights and freedom of others. Today as a 52 year old I have to make decisions quite often for work and don't always like what decision I make if it opposes my inner sense of what is right and wrong. But life is nearly ALWAYS a case of walking on egg shells.
Life is complicated as a grown up man and that is why I OFTEN look back to the time in my life I was THE MOST HAPPY. A time where hierarchy was respected, a time where saying "yes Sir, no Sir" didn't diminish the sense of pride I had in myself. A time where everything was so clear, plain and simple with no walking on egg shells or making compromises. A time when an order was an order and like in mathematics the subject is not a matter of opinion.
I wish to God now that I stayed in the army. Those were THE days !! ( a 19 year old Italianskies as a conscript in the 132 Aries armored regiment heavy field artillery of the Italian army)
We wanted desperately to grow up and be able to do the interesting things adults were doing. Now we have arrived and realize that what we didn't know we're the pressures and demands that came along as baggage....Wish I were a kid again....
