I Am Getting Older And Wiser

I know a lot of guys my age who are trying to recapture their youth, desperate to hold onto a past self that becomes more a part of the past with each passing day. They dye their hair and eyebrows the blackest black in the history of the color black and spend wayyyyyyy too much time trying to chat up twenty-something girls online, trying to prove to themselves and the world that they're not getting older, they're still 'cool'.

I can't think of anything more un-cool than trying to be young and cool.

But there is a different kind of cool for people my age to aspire to:
Sage is cool.
Wisdom is cool.

Gandalf is cool.
Merlin is cool.
Ben Kenobi is cool.

Yes, they're fictional characters and legends but they show us that [c=#800000]WISDOM[/c] is a superpower. And wisdom only comes with time and experience and an open mind.

Past 50, cool is not trying to prove you can hang with younger people.
Cool is when younger people come to you because they want to hear what you have to say. And what they can learn.

I'm with you on this one! I find that with older people in general,male and female. I find my husband more attractive,interesting and appealing now even though he hates his aging looks. For myself,I've come to the realization that I am too. I'm pretty confident I'm more beautiful now, inside and out, than when I was younger.

@SW-User I always agree with that, much like fine wine.

@lasergraph Exactly!

I tell the young that wisdom doesn't mean we are any smarter, it just means we have already made the mistakes. I would have to have some hair before I could dye it. Life is short and time is the one commodity we use that can never be replenished.
@lasergraph Spot on :)

Nice writing. I have read a lot about old men hanging with young girls or old women with young boys. I wonder if they know well that their partners come to them because of their money or they believe that love has no age differences.

I believe that this is a kind of psychology symptom that people usually call middle-crisis. There is nothing wrong to dye hair or eyebrows but it has some meanings if they seek low-class young girls to buy. Maybe it is a good feeling to be taken care and giving money. But maybe we shouldnt judge the old men or young girls because our friends are happy. That is meaningful to me.
There's a place for older men. The ones that are fit (or even not so fit) and who have interests are still highly sought after, if not by young women, by their own contemporaries. Older women are trying to find a place in a world that only seems to value youth in women, no matter how accomplished they may be otherwise. 🙁

@robingoodfellow I think you might be one of the very less persons who thinks like that. It's already a label in our society that you should make yourself always as young as possible - no matter if men or women: By coloring hair, makeup, creams etc. etc. 😖
@Loretta78 You're right, society preaches youth is everything. But I think you'd be surprised how many men will will see an older woman as beautiful. :)

@robingoodfellow I think I really would be surprised because honestly: Until now I haven't met such men.

I touched on old guys chasing young girls here, but added a tribute to older women. https://similarworlds.com/2329742-I-Absolutely-Love-Women/76710-In-Praise-of-Older-Women-I-have-seen-a-trend-among
