I'm A People Watcher

I Am a People Watcher
So do you just dump your child at school!
Living next to a school for children aged 5 to 10 gives me the opportunity to observe parents as they stop outside our house, curbside to deliver their children to the school.
I wish I could read the minds and the thoughts that go through the parents heads as they close the car door and drive off to enter the next few hours of their lives.
Given the following circumstances I am curious as to what these thoughts could be:
The parent who gives the small daughter whispers in the ear, a cuddle and a wave goodbye.
An alcoholic parent.
A working parent.
An unemployed or financially troubled parent who has been unable to supply a lunch today for their child.
The parent whose child has just witnessed abuse in the home immediately before being taken to school.
The parent who hardly acknowledges their child when they get out of the car.
The parent who walks their child to the school gate in their pj's.
The caring parent.
The parent from a minority group.
The parent with a disability.
The parent who has just split from their partner.

Now maybe after reading this post you can give a thought to the child who is at school expected to behave, be attentive and put in their best effort no matter what the trials and tribulations of their home circumstances.

I wonder if the troubled parents ever discuss the reasons their children might have some difficulty. Knowing the situation helps the teachers understand how best to reach the kid. Often they can also help connect the parents with support systems in their community.

Exactly. Very well put Shayla@Shayla

Maybe the reason that the curriculum seemed so repetitive to me was so that all students had a better chance to learn in spite of having some days when learning was the least of their concerns.
