I Am Potty Training My Son

Potty training sucks!!! My youngest boy just can't seem to get the hang of it. Hes 5 and still has lots of accidents. He'll be starting school his spring and I'm starting to worry

I had an aunt who lived with us for a while and since because of that I too had to Potty train my cousin (pain in the ass). One thing that I would do is if he needed to pee, I would tell him to tell me so I can direct him to the restroom. Then I would throw a cheerio in the toilet and tell him to aim at it. now he's 7 and he seems like he can take care of himself now, it's as if I practically raised him myself since his mom was always working. but yeah, I mean that worked 🤷🏻‍♂️

@SW-User my oldest boy was super easy. He was in big boy pants at 3. I know all kiddos are different but man alive this kid is not getting it.

@Edginggirl that was the age my cousin was. but by 4 years old he didnt need me anymore (': I felt so happy like he finally did everything by himself...minus wiping his own ass 🙄

Children will get distracted and 'involved' in whatever they're doing.

Treat this the same way you do everything else. Repetition of routine

Ask them every ten minutes if they need to go.
Whatever their response, say 'please try !'
Be sure to 'applaud and reward' everytime he get it right.
Don't make a big deal of it if they don't.

@Picklebobble2 This reminds me of my own son. I ALWAYS applauded when he went to potty. 😅

A certain amount of ridicule and shame from the other kids will spur that along.

"Now if you wanna potty, you make sure you tell a grown up" This is why your coworkers will announce their intentions to go to the bathroom. It was engrained in them from a young age and stuck with them

If he is going to a liberal controlled public school you have the answer..........they do not know shit and especially cannot educate. Put the poor kid into a good private or catholic school and he will learn where and how to go potty.

I thought boys were easier to potty train

@Chickie my oldest was a piece of cake. My youngest not so much.
