I Distrust the Government
(I actually wanted to post to "I believe in limited government" but they still don't let you make groups)
If my cable, say, was out for a week, I could call customer service and scream at them, and it'd be, "oh, we're so sorry Mr. AerosolKid, I'll tell you what: you've been very patient, only threatening me and my family once, we're going to give you... 3 months free." Now, if the government drags their feet for 2 [i]years[/i] in letting my wife into the country, I can scream all I like at my Member of Parliament, they aren't even going to do me the courtesy of letting me know how long until we get to the end of the @$#&+* tunnel! And when they finally do offer the visa, they give you a Monty Hall type of problem, were the wrong choice means starting the application all over again!
With the government's blithering incompetence, I'm always reluctant to let them get involved in anything that isn't absolutely necessary.
