I Believe That Words Are Powerful

Recently, I saw a video on social media on new words that explains deep emotions which I am sure all of you must have felt but can't seem to find the right expression for it. And I love the whole list. Tell me which one is familiar to you.

1. Sonder: The realization that each passerby has a life as vivid and complex as yours.

2. Opia: The ambiguous intensity of looking someone in the eye, which feels invasive and vulnerable at the same time.

3. Monachopsis: The subtle but persistent feeling of being out of place.

4. Liberosis: The desire to care less about things.

5. Rubatosis: The unsettling awareness of your own heartbeat.

6. Kenopsia: The eerie, forlorn atmosphere of a place that is usually bustling with people but is now abandoned and quiet.

7. Chrysalism: The amniotic tranquility of being indoors during a thunderstorm.

8. Anecdoche: A conversation in which everyone is talking but nobody is listening.

9. Ellipsism: A sadness that you'll never be able to know how history will turn out.

10. Occhiolism: The awareness of the smallness of your perspective.

I think Sonder describes it for me. I often look at people and think where they are rushing off to, what they'd be doing or who they'd be meeting. Or if I pass an open window in the street, I would wonder about the lives of the inhabitants. The man having a smoke on the balcony on a cold winter day, the teenager with her friend on the swing... We catch each other in that brief instant and then we go on with our lives, and we never know what happens before or after. How strange it all seems to me.

Really! This is so great. Thanks for sharing this. I did not know there are words for those feelings. 😊

Now I see my life as a trip from ellipsism to monachopsis.

@Cierzo I do feel monachopsis from time to time too.

Monachopsis has definitely haunted me all my life, but I think all of those I've encountered at least once. The only terms out of those that I've heard before are Anecdoche & Ellipsism.

@majesticsea oh my dear, how exhausting, how do you survive?
majesticsea · 31-35, F
@firefall Talk it out, sleep, work out, or zone out into space (I do this often. Sort of like a calibration. Haha)

@majesticsea LOL yes, I get that. I don't think I could endure that realization over & over that much, I tend to keep the shutters of my perception half-closed when I'm around people I dont know, I think.
Are these real words ?
I'm very well acquainted with monachopsis. And anedoche is a common occurrence at family gatherings. 🙂

@bijouxbroussard Not sure if they are real words. But surely it will be for this generation. :)
