I Enjoy Meaningful Conversations

I truly believe that meaningful conversations are getting to be more and more infrequent. I actually think the use of cell phones and social media destroy these style of conversations. I actually had an experience not too long ago where I was asked to dinner by an old friend to catch up with her. Then the dinner started off nice but I noticed that she couldn't stay off of her phone and her mind was elsewhere. I decided to excuse myself and use the excuse that I had a prior arrangement. I paid the check and left.

After three years you'd figure the conversations would just flow easily. But by being distracted it takes away from the focus of the table and makes the person feel uninteresting.
I find it irksome when I’m trying to have a conversation with someone and they pull out their phone and start txting or looking at something while obviously not listening. I just stop talking. It’s a deflating feeling that a phone can have more of a pull than the words being exchanged in person.
@SardonicasCurse That is one of the rules on my post of rules I live by.
It does get annoying when you try to talk to people who are rexting because they basically start ignoring you. And i cant tell how many times people habe asked me to repeat myself when they stopped listening cause they were texting
@TURTLEGOD That is one of the rules on my post of rules I live by.

My husband and I have an agreement that when we're eating dinner, we don't have our phones out unless we're showing each other something we can share. People are so reliant on mindlessly using their phones now. It's sad that the art of conversation is dying.

Meaningful social discourse is becoming a thing of the past... I saw a family of four at a restaurant the other day. No conversations, all of them had their heads down looking at their phones.
