I Like Learning New Things

Here's another experience I want to share ☺...because I love story telling.
[image deleted]Too much affluence for a very small country, The Vatican.

Incredible these paintings mostly done by Michelangelo. They are called Frescoes; watercolor painted on wet plaster on the walls and and ceilings, so that the colors penetrated the plaster and became fixed as they dried.[image deleted]
The emphasis on depth in the painted artworks is truly amazing. They looked 3D to me, with those arms and feet and intricate trimmings coming forward. I asked if they were carved or moulded plasters and the travel guide answered, "They were all single-handedly painted FLAT on the ceiling by Michelangelo standing". Truly a gifted painter and sculptor.
Some of his marble works.

The tapestries, 'bigger than life', @Pfuzylogic is talking about.

The ornaments are massive....The letterings alone on the gold strip are 6.4 ft tall. It runs as part of the cornice along all the walls of the Sistine Chapel.

Every room has been "refreshed", as described by the travel guide. Meaning, cleaned and restored, by newer generation artists to maintain the original state of the artworks. But they always leave a part untouched (like the dark strip on the ceiling) to show how the original would have changed after thousands of years.

Michelangelo dedicated so much to this work so everyone could enjoy his vision.
I am curious about what I haven’t seen now. As a Catholic this must have been such a treat let alone as a Fine Art enthusiast. I believe Raphael has some sculpture also in the Vatican.

I am never without resources.
I give God that credit because that wasn’t guaranteed when my former employer abandoned me and left me on my own. I did feel very strongly that God was in it or I wouldn’t have taken a big chance on my own. I do agree with you that inspiration comes from places besides the Internet and away from the phone. I do relish this time to explore creatively and fortunate that there are several places to view Fine Art here.

@Pfuzylogic You are better off than many, my friend, That I know for sure. There are always unseen forces taking care of you, no matter what. Your faith hath saved you.....And me too.

Pls, I repeat. We all need respite, so take the chance. I'll go with you in spirit.....Take my hand.☺ *reaches out to you*

If many would take the chance to know God it would make such a difference in their lives.
Yes, I am fortunate and very thankful for the mercies I have been shown.
*Accepts your hand in friendship”.
You know I had to look up the word “respite”! 😉
Incredible works ... thank you for sharing this... I'm sure this must be experienced to be truly appreciated.. it's hard to imagine the size and the depth of just the 6.4 lettering, the tapestries and the 3D effect... I'm in awe just looking at the pics..

Thank you so much for sharing this with us..
@SW-User lovely... love it!

Great photos. I remember being totally upset seeing the wealth of the Vatican and the poverty of the Catholic countries.
SW-User
@samueltyler2 Yes, I understand, Sam. You have a valid reason indeed, to be upset. Vatican stands as a big example of the ironies in life.
SW-User
@samueltyler2 Thank you.🌹

Thanks for sharing, very interesting. I'm sure photos don't do justice for the art.
SW-User
@Withintent Oh yes. Once you are inside, you want to take pictures of everything as much as you can. You can only clique so much...It was surreal. The works of M is unbelievable. You can at least see the visitors' reaction. Everybody was in awe.
