The political situation in your country is temporary and nothing the next election can't solve. As for your new supervisor, I know you, I know how smart you are, and you will undoubtedly manage to impress him. No need to be anxious, you're a boss.
Longevity has taught me ONE THING, Shit happens and if you don't have direct control over it, it is best not to worry about it. I have cheated death a couple of times in the past and when things get really bad I look back and remember they could always be worse.
