Also, have you ever seen a film with a soundtrack by either Kenji Kawai or Susumu Hirasawa? They're both incredible composers.

@Byron8by7 I personally recommend Paprika for a taste of Hirasawa's work (directed by the late, great Satoshi Kon) and Avalon for an example of Kenji Kawai's (directed by Mamoru Oishi, the director of the original Ghost in the Shell).

I have seen some German films with stunning music by the group Popol Vuh - very haunting.

@Byron8by7 I believe that it's directed by Darren Aronovsky, or however you spell his name, who also directed Requiem for a Dream. It has the same soundtrack composer too - Clint Mansell.
