I Love to Write
They woke to an empty room; dark, shapeless surroundings void of familiar sounds that they had grown accustomed to hearing. Confusion mixed with panic as they searched around themselves, feeling out for a welcome warmth that their mind had instinctively expected next to them, but a hand fell firm onto the cold empty space of the large bed, a moment no more than a few seconds, their mind refusing to fully wake from sleep and process their current situation...
...He remembered.
The fog of deep sleep cleared, ending his short-lived confusion. She had never been here, not once, he had confused the past with present, his eyes adjusted to the dark, and as expected found himself in his bedroom, sitting in his bed, nothing out of the ordinary, nothing strange, alone.
His mind had been temporarily lost in the past, lost in a time he missed, sleeping next to someone he loved.
No...
Someone he did love,
Someone he would always love.
What happened didn’t matter, how she had pushed him away,
He didn’t care.
He didn’t know if he actually wanted to see her, he didn’t know if he didn’t want to either.
He didn’t know if the pain of seeing her and her boy would be too great,
But he knew at least that he would always love her, and that in some deep quiet part of his mind, he definitely missed her, missed both of them.
