is it okay to wear baggy trousers

i'm male in my 40s i take a size 34 waist in trousers/jeans/chinos....and i have a new pair of chinos i have never worn which are a size 40 waist, but i really like them, they are a sandy brown colour, i'd have to wear the chinos with a belt......but would it be okay to wear them even though they will be baggyish on me?
