I Enjoy Helping Others

Walmart Parking Lot... The other night while in the parking lot at Walmart I was approached by a lady asking for some spare change. I live in a neighborhood where I encounter plenty of homeless people asking for anything you are willing to give. They hang out on the street corners. I've yet to be approached at Walmart, until the other night. It was quite cold and this lady (girl, she might have been 20) was wearing a light jacket and what looked like pajama bottoms, the kind you get to have fun at a sleep over. Her hair was blond and up in a ponytail, she looked a little dirty but not weather worn like the homeless on the street corners. She actually looked like she could be someone like me, or one of my daughters. I gave her $2, I should've given her the twenty i had. If my oldest daughter was there she would have asked to pray over her. I keep "blessing bags" in my car most of the time. They have a gallon size baggie of personal care items, a snack, a bottle of water and I think some information for shelters. My oldest daughter puts them together and I am always stunned at how desperate and grateful the people are when I hand them out. It seems so trivial. I guess the deepest thing I feel is that it's not enough and as I look them in the eye and accept their thanks, I realize that very well could be me if circumstances were different. I didn't have the best of everything growing up but I had enough and I had more resources than most. I am thankful for my circumstances and will try but I'm afraid it will never be enough.

That is such a great idea! Your 'blessing bags' I will definitely have to start using them Please keep telling people about them and using them yourself. What are some of the personal care items you use?

Water bottle , soap ,tooth brush /paste, snack, bandaids/mini first aid kit , small can of ravioli and a fork. A little spare change and an info sheet of phone numbers with resources. There's also a number to get a ride to go to one of the local shelters

I will most definitely start to do this. I don't know where you are from but your blessing bags are going to be useful in new york

They have small group ministries that do it even more simple than that just simply handing out socks. I see those folks on the corners it's so cold I wan to give them all a blanket or a room. I don't of course just these little things. We had a family member who spent some time homeless she said she appreciated anythng someone gave her

My daughter ( she's 21) is actually the one who started doing this . There's so many people I see here I wish I did more. All I do is pass them out when I see them.
