I Love My Family

My father is 75 years old. I am seeing with grief how in these last few months he is in a deep decline. His legs are weak and he cannot take long walks as he used to. His memory often fails him. All this is taking its tall in his mood, he is quite down, he just wants to stay home and lie down, and he is totally self-absorbed, only the way he feels seems to matter to him now.

Seeing him likw that not only makes me sad, but scared too. Scared to see how fragile we are, how deeply connected our body and our mind are. And scared to think one day I can be like that too, not being able to enjoy life at all and making life difficult to those around.

My dad had Alzheimer’s disease for years before he passed and had various other health issues.
All I can suggest is to do whatever you can that will make him smile or laugh for just a few minutes. My dog was the only thing that truly made my dad smile.
We will ALL get old someday. We all should remember that and try to make those who are at that stage of their life now a little happier if we can

I hope he feels better soon. It's true the body and mind are connected. We must never take our health for granted. It is always hard to see a loved one grow old and weaker by the day. I hope your dad gets small moments of joy watching his grandchildren or when you spend time talking to him.

@novembermoon Grandchildren are the only thing that gives him joy now. It is hard to talk to him these days, he is quite self-absorbed.

@Cierzo Another reason to have children. They give love and joy.

I fully understand that. It is scary. We are mortal, our bodies are fragile and will break down in old age. And there is nothing we can do about it.
I’m sorry your Father is not doing well. 75yrs is not that old...I hope he finds the will to keep going..mind, body and soul.

@DayDreaming2 Thank you. It is the fast way he has declined that has shocked me. He has always been on the taciturn side, but willing to keep active physically and mentally. Now this activity seems gone.

The message that emerges here is how much you love and respect your father.
Cierzo · M
@SW-User I do. There have been times in my life I have not valued him as much as he deserves, but the day he is not here any more I am going to miss him a lot.

@Cierzo I sensed that in your comments

Oh my heart goes out to you. It’s so difficult to see them decline. 🤗
Cierzo · M
@JustNik It is quite hard. These days he is going to be with his grandchildren. I really hope it makes him feel better.

🤗 Sorry to heat such news bro. The mind is a lot more connected with our bodies than we realise, As you said
And scared one day I could be like that too
that is not something that you should feed into your mind, the mind never forgets wether we want to or not.
We should all let our mind control our body rather than let our body control our mind. Hence the saying “mind over matter”.

@SW-User This is the way life is, I suppose.
Not only seeing him decline makes me side, also seeing how it is very hard for me to accept this situation, which I totally understand. Feeling limited by your own body is very hard
