I Love My Family
Today, I held her for the second time. Her big blue eyes wide open. Only closed last time, it meant the world to see her see me.
My thoughts were incapable of keeping up with the view That was overwhelming me. Her life ahead, her innocence unspoiled, her journey started, I simply was unable to stop smiling.
Her life uncharted but will likely reach into a century I’ve never thought of as real. She will see and experience creations that my mind is incapable of imagining. She will be smarter, better, sweeter and stronger.
As my arms wrapped around her protectively, no danger could have penetrated and yet I realize I will mostly be a memory and the man I am now, simply a story recited by her parents, aunts and uncles during family gatherings.
Tempted to be sad, I quickly realized that this is her story. While mine may be mostly told, to have the privilege of touching her story for even a moment is an honor I treasure.
Words fail me, emotion overtakes me and I already miss the feeling of those 7 pounds nestled in my arms. Life is beautiful and her life a beacon to the future.
