I Write Poetry
The Love that is my Tether
I love the way you humour me,
And feed my creative mind.
I love the way you accept my faults
And my slightly large behind.
I love the way when we’re apart,
You decide to make a choice.
Every morning when I awake,
You must ring to hear my voice.
I love the way you tidy things,
Your preciseness kicking in.
I even love your ‘Car’ collection,
You refuse to put in the bin.
I love that you adore my ears,
And enjoy playing with my hair.
Your patience when I can’t fall asleep,
Your chest with its fluffy hair.
Thank you for all these special things,
And for sticking by my side.
Through all the turbulent ups and downs
And the roller coaster ride.
You gave to me the gift of living,
Allowed me to stretch my wings.
The love I feel towards you now
Encompasses both those things.
It’s rare I know to be in love,
After thirty-six years together.
I’ve never regretted a single time,
The love that is my tether.
