Scream

The first ripple of madness touched my shore
with the force of an exhaled sigh.
Then another and another
like drops of rain falling on the bottomless pool
of everything that was me.

Tinkling echoes reverberate within my inner silence,
building softly and relentlessly
toward an inevitable unknown.
Doom covers me in a blanket of soot
blackened and slowly hardening into the image of who I once was.

Standing alone on my barren shore,
the ripples become crashing waves
tearing at the fortress of my mind.
Struggling to hold onto a small piece of the familiar
becomes a fruitless endeavor as my singularity is breached.

Raging foam coalesces into marshmallow eyes
rolling in horrible whiteness
as they search for my secret self.
Hardening into teeth they begin to devour the essence
that only I have known or would ever possess.

Crackling electric dreams
fill the endless night that follows.
Images of things that were once known mock me with derision.
Faces loom into view startling in their familiar horror
without the knowledge that I no longer exist.

In the distance a scream can be heard,
comforting and appalling in it's form.
The scream becomes my all consuming desire, passion and love.
The scream is all that I have ever been,
or ever would be.
