I Am a Good Listener Even If I Dont Have the Right Advice
Advice is a funny thing.
Topics on SW lately have been about:
- atheists vs deists
- men vs women
- gays vs straights
- blacks, whites, and all the colors in between
- liberals vs conservatives
Some folks are asking for advice. Others are asking for perspective. A disturbing number insist on being disrespectful and condescending.
Most of this isnt helpful.
Seems that we have devolved to the point where we are evaluating each other based on what teams we are on instead of listening to each other as individuals.
Is being a straight man part of who I am? Sure is. But that alone doesn鈥檛 define me. There are plenty of straight men who are nothing like me. There are quite a few gay women who are a lot like me.
I will listen to you if you would like my perspective, but I cannot give you advice beyond what I have experienced.
If you are struggling with the relationships with people in your life, whether they be personal or professional, I will listen and share with you any experiences I have that may be similar.
But you need to address each of these people as individuals. You also need to express yourself as an individual.
