Nice money, if you can pull it off

In the 1950's, a copy of the Da Vinci painting "Salvator Mundi" was sold for 45 pounds ($61).

Eventually, that painting was determined to actually be the original, and not a copy at all!

In 2017 it sold in New York for $450 million.

Restored before attribution. Glorious painting.

It's better to be lucky than good, unless you're autocorrect...and well, autocorrect sucks...like my girlfriend's cooking.

How do they determine that a painting is the original work of an artist?

@assemblingaknob 🤷‍♂️

I am not an art expert.

@assemblingaknob X-rays show the original marks made by the artist. Also every artist has a unique way of painting and technique that the world's leading experts can recognise. In addition the materials used would be consistent with the artist's era; in this case Leonardo da Vinci, c1500.
