Yeah, misery is part of this thing called life. I'm trying to be a good student and keep as many lessons about it as I can, but sometimes (in a recent case) I let my guard down and *oops* I slip and fall.

Thank you for your kind words. Yeah I want to tell her how I feel about her but I can't do that to her; she's going through a lot and that would only add to her burden -- I simply cannot and will not do that to her. It tears me apart although I realize this is how it is.

@Fungirlmmmm - I came 'that close' twice but she's going through a rough emotional time and she needs me to be a friend and to listen to her without judging her. I can't and won't add to her burden. Hearing something like that from me would only create confusion for her - I can't do that. I just can't.

Thank you very much "Heart" (if you don't mind that abbreviation). Briefly stated, I think she's terrific. And she has a guy that she thinks is terrific. I'm her friend and she needs someone who'll listen to her; that's my role. I want to confess my feelings for her but she has a lot on her plate right now and hearing something like that would be one of the very last things she needs. Besides as I said, she and he are together and that's good for her. Especially him. It tears me apart when I hear her talk about him and how she misses her previous guy. However I cannot and will not let her down or cause further confusion with my confession. That wouldn't help her. I know that. I know that very well from past experiences.
So....there you are.

Thank you "Heart". We've been friends for a while, and she's always thought of me as just a friend, which I am. She's dated others and recently went through a hard breakup. That along with other events going on in her life make my announcement not only a stumbling block but would put her in a corner. Obviously I can't - and won't - do that.

That's just it -- it's rather difficult to think of humor without it involving someone being hurt or taken advantage of. True there are instances: one that comes to my mind is Monty Python's "The Argument Clinic", which makes me laugh every time. Even then that bit ends up with some physical contact.

@FunGirlmmm - Needless to say I'm sorry. As it is now I get to be around her so that's good. Yeah it tears me apart when she touches on certain topics ("I miss my old guy; I love my guy so much!") but ......well such is life.
